What's with the name?

It's short for "Evolution."  We celebrate the evolution of motocross by having Vintage, Evolution, Decade and Modern bikes.

How did Evo start?

In early 1992, the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Racing Association was gaining momentum around the country. Hosting a 15 race series that visited all the famous tracks, winning an AHRMA title was a prestigious accomplishment. It was common to see many of yesterday's World and American Champs showing up at events riding, in most cases, the brands that made them famous.

A local CZ rider, Gary Wilmore felt Texas needed to become a AHRMA Region and host at least one National event. With-in a few months, Gary was the Regional Coordinator for the South-West Region and Texas had a Nat'l at Thunder Mountain in Rusk,Texas.

Wilmore, an Oil Engineer, got transferred to Saudi Arabia and asked me to fill during his absence, I agreed. That was almost 15 years ago.

I assumed the Regional Coordinator role and promoted 3 AHRMA Nat'ls, 3 Vintage Pro-Ams. Around 1998, I realized that AHRMA was stuck in the past and refused to recognize the longer travel bikes and continued to push for track layouts that suited a 60 year old rider on a 300 lb BSA.  Fun for them, but it sucked for us.

Over the last 10 years, the club has evolved - we tried to add 4 wheelers, not good! We tried a number of combinations to keep the attendance at a point that it was feasible for me to continue to do it. After all, you won't make any money unless you own the track.  We have since evolved into a Vet club. We offer classes for everyone, no matter what they ride.  We just want to ride and compete with our friends and get home in time for whatever else we have to do.

Our mission statement is - "We start late, end early and get plenty of laps."  We try to keep it simple, no memberships required, we avoid the Supercross style tracks, no complicated rules, no multiple mini class structures.  We all have to work on Monday. We're a Vet club and we're going to keep it that way.

Come join us.

Thanks, Hump
